King Shot Getting off the Ground

It would appear that surrealist Alejandro Jodorowsky's King Shot, his first film since 1990, may actually be getting some backing. Being dubbed as a "surrealist spaghetti western", so color me excited.

King Shot, which would star Nick Nolte, Marilyn Manson, Udo Kier, and Asia Argento has been in the works for a while now, but according to ScreenDaily, Laszlo Kantor of UJ Budapest FilmStudio is well on his way to securing the $7.4 million required to get it off the ground. The backers include an "array" of different partners, including another legendary surreal film maker in David Lynch.

Let's hope this picture finally becomes a reality, because I don't think I've heard of a more interesting sounding film than this in years. And you want to see it, too, even if you don't know it yet.

Dark Night for Danger Mouse

According to Gizmodo, Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse seem to be having some sort of legal troubles with his studio as far as the release of his forth-coming record Dark Night of the Soul. So, as it is, instead of releasing a record, Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse are going to release a 100+ page photobook, with photographs inspired by the music taken by noneother than David Lynch. This is pretty strange, but it gets a little stranger.

With the book, Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse will release a "blank CD-R" so that you can go torrent the songs and burn them to the disc yourself. The CD-R will be labelled "For Legal Reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will." Not that he's never done so before, but encouraging bootlegging is my favorite form of promotion.

Oh. And as for contributers, how do Jason Lytle, Iggy Pop, Suzanne Vega, The Flaming Lips suit you? Holy geez you know you want to hear this record. Well, lucky you, the NPR actually has it streaming right now. Go HERE as fast as you can to check it out. Herzog and Lynch Take On Horror!

Werner Herzog and David Lynch to Make Horror Flick

So, this interesting bit of news came about a couple of days ago, but it seems that Werner Herzog is set to direct the upcoming My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done?, produced by none other than David Lynch. And those are two of my favorite names in cinema. From Screen Daily we get this quote from Herzog, "I always wanted to make a horror film, but not with bloody axes and chain-saws. An anonymous fear should rather creep up at you".

But, wait, there's more. Let's take a look at the rest of the cast: Willem Dafoe, Michael Shannon, Chloe Sevigny, Michael Pena, Brad Dourif, Bill Cobbs, Udo Kier and Grace Zabriskie. That's a pretty nice set up.

This will be a good change of pace from Lynch's very odd video projects like Boat and More Things That Happened. So color me excited!
