The beginnings of Olympic Artichoke actually date back to the year 2002. That year, founder Pop Newmo began a Yahoo!Group that mainly functioned as a place to discuss music and other pop culture happenings. That group was named Olympic Artichoke. After a little while, as Yahoo!Groups were peetering out, Olympic Artichoke went the way of the Do-Do Bird.
A few years later, in 2007, I approached Pop Newmo about collaborating on a blog together. A place where we could discuss all the things that we liked, and hopefully get a readerbase. He agreed and I fired up the computer on July 4, 2007 and thus began the blog you are reading today. Sometime later we added on Whalehead as a sometimes contributer. He started out contributing an art section, which so far is eighteen posts strong. You can view his art here. He's also contributed to the banners for the site in the past, and the "fire logo" at the bottom of the page is his.
Eventually, life got in the way and Pop Newmo stopped writing as much for the blog. He's always welcome back, but for now it looks like this is my baby. I can't exactly place the time, but eventually I steered the blog into becoming an extremely horror-centric animal. I love the genre so much that I can't help but write about it. Sue me. I love how big and strong the online horror blog community has gotten over the past year and half. It's interesting to watch the growth, and the bumbles, of some of the sites. I'm a proud member of the Horror Blogger Alliance and hope to keep pumping out the good stuff.
But I also still like to write about other things. If you look to the right, you'll notice a whole bunch of sections. I still like to write about music, baseball, other movies, and random pop culture rumblings. It's a big world, you know.
In late March of 2012, the Olympic Artichoke group expanded into the podcasting scene. Yours truly, along with friends of the blog Bryan and Galen, started Olympic Artichoke radio with nothing more than a recording device and a dream. The podcast is a bi-weekly event that has the guys focusing on three movies per episode. Episode one kicked it off with Bottle Rocket/Paris, Texas/Texas Chainsaw Massacre II.
Anyway, we are glad that you're here. I hope that we contribute something that's worth a damn to somebody. One last note, I am always looking for guest contributors, so if you want to add something interesting to the site, hit me up. I'm sure we can work something out.
